NHS problems: Commons health select committee could hold the key

September 14, 2016 10:04 PM

Liberal Democrat regional vice-chair Phil Knowles says the Commons health select committee could be the key to finding the way forward in challenging times for the NHS.

Phil says:

"The NHS needs a full and overarching review without delay. A review on everything from bed-blocking to budgets, GP services to mental healthcare, social care, ambulance sesponse times, domiciliary care provision, doctor numbers, nursing numbers and so much more. Services that work alongside each other and where problems in one sector can and do impact on others.

"We won't tackle the issues until there is a complete overarching review.

"The select committee meets within days and I would hope that they seize the opportunity and to do everything they can to make the review happen without delay.

"The NHS is already experiencing an array of difficulties. Winter is just around the corner and this will undoubtedly increase the pressures.

"Time is not our our side if we are to see the NHS thrive and not just survive."
