Heated debate as Fire Service‎ cuts are put to councillors

November 4, 2015 9:29 PM

Temperatures rose as Harborough District Council voted down a Liberal Democrat motion calling on the council to register its concern at the planned cuts.

Lib Dem Leader Cllr Phil Knowles put forward the motion, saying the public is deeply concerned. But the majority of the Conservative group voted the proposal down.

Speaking after the meeting, Phil said:

"We put this motion on the agenda to give the council the opportunity to reflect the concerns of so many residents. Sadly the motion was voted down, though some Conservatives did abstain ‎rather than vote against us and one voted with the Lib Dems in favour of our proposal."
