Coaltion delivers funding for Market Harborough station

February 2, 2015 7:45 PM

Cllr Phil Knowles at Market Harborough stationNews that Leicestershire's £20.3m Growth Deal includes a significant cash boost to upgrade Market Harborough's railway station has been warmly welcomed by Liberal Democrat councillors Phil Knowles (pictured here at the station) and Sarah Hill.

They said:

"It will mean improved journey times to and from London and will also pay for upgrading of the disabled access at the station. We also see the potential for electrification as an opportunity to reduce running costs, energy use and carbon emissions.

"Harborough faces hundreds of homes being built over the coming years and no doubt additional businesses basing themselves in and around the town. We have campaigned for investment in the Midland main line, so we are delighted to see the funding delivered.

"We took this campaign directly to the Lib Dem transport minister Baroness Kramer and hope that it won't be too far in the future that we can welcome her to Market Harborough to see the finished scheme."
