Health bosses are being urged to clarify the future of Market Harborough's Minor Injury Unit and to provide assurances that the funding has been secured for Harborough's 'new hospital'.
In a letter and telephone call, Liberal Democrat councillor Phil Knowles has told the Health Authority that these questions need to be resolved without delay.
He says:
"We have been told that the future of the Unit is again under consideration and will be subject to a public consultation. We fought hard to keep this facility in Harborough, so if there is to be a consultation on its future then it looks as though we will have to fight all over again. As the town continues to grow, this is jsut the sort of facility that we need.
"More than two weeks on from the announcement that we had won the 'new hospital' - and the confidence expressed to us by health bosses on the delivery of the total scheme - it's equally important to know that the funding has been secured so that a potential pitfall in the project is removed."
